Sri Ranga Chaya Trust and Athithi Sathkaram Committee Honours Cleaning Workers During Srirangam Thiruadhyayana Utsavam

For the past 20 days SriRangam has been buzzing with activity and there has been a steady inflow of pilgrims from around the globe. Did we wait to ponder who kept the temple and surroundings clean? Well, at Swami Desikan Tirumaligai on North Uthira Veedhi. Today 21 January, 2014; Municipal Corporation workers and temple cleaning staff were presented with sarees for women and dhothis for men. These workers have been doing their job cleaning the streets of SriRangam, Amma mandapam and inside the temple. Tokens were distributed the previous day and once the head of the team came in, the distribution started at about 11.30 a.m. About 350 tokens were distributed and each member had to hand over the token before receiving their gift. NamPerumal is happy with any kainkaryam done for Him. Cleaning the temple and the surroundings as great a kainkaryam as offering bahumanams. Today’s vastrams were given by Sri Ranga Chaya Trust and Athithi Sathkaram Committee distributed at Swami Desikan Tirumaligai. This is in accordance with Bhaghavadh Ramanuja’s wish.

Even as the distribution was on vadyam was heard and we saw Araiyar swami taken round Uthira Veedhi with chatram/chamaram and wearing Perumal’s vasthram and garlands. This is to honour the Araiyar for the excellent sevai they did the past 20 days during Pagal-pathu and Ira-pathu utsavams, Known as Brahmaratham the araiyar swami used to be taken in a palanquin. This has been stopped by some human rights group. So the Araiyar swami walks.
