On Durmukhi Aadi Aayilyam(3rd August 2016) Kanchi Varadarja Perumal koil Aandal caught everyone’s attention with Her lavendar pink silk with double layered jari border on a black background. As She emerged out in purappadu on Sannidhi Street accepting the offerings of devotees residents of Sannidhi Street and pilgrims visiting stood aside to admire the huge divyaprabhandham and Veda parayana goshti accompanying Her. At Tiruvadi-koil She stood facing Hanuman and turned around after harathi offering. She reached the temple and listened to the arulicheyal goshti after entering ‘gopura vasal’ and to the Vedic chants near the dwajhasthambam. Harathi and fruits were offered at Tondaradipodi and then She proceeded to Her sannidhi for ‘oonjal’ and satrumurai.
Durmukhi Aadi Magham(4th Aug) was Day-9 of Andal’s Tiruvadi Pooram at Kanchi Varadaraja Perumal temple. Andal in her bright green silk with red border and thick chains of gold with pendants looked a bride all over. What stood out was the bright red thin garland of vrikshis with manoranjitham flowers forming a kind of pendant. Lot of patience and labour of love has gone into the making of this masterpiece. Andal accepted it and among all the ornaments on the Head and around Her Neck this stood out. Her kodali mudichu looked elegant and as She walked on Sannidhi Street accompanied by Her parivaram beginning with the temple horse, the music makers and the two goshtis everyone felt blessed. After the ‘oonjal’ it took some time to lower the swing so devotees had an extra minute of Her peeping from above the screen.
