Durmukhi Aani Chitrai(12th July 2016) was the seventh and concluding day of ‘Kodai-utsavam’ at Kanchi VarradarajaPerumal koil. At about 6.00p.m. Perumal and Ubhaya Nachimars left in separate kedayams in purappadu on Sannidhi Street accompanied by ‘parivaram’. After returning to the temple aradhana and ‘poo- sarthuthal’ took place for Varadan after the ‘oonjal’ was over. Then aradhana and ‘poo- sarthuthal’ took place for ‘Ubhaya Nachimars ‘. The crown of flowers for Perumal was firm and beautifully fixed, The Ubhaya Nachimars had a special flower necklace with pendant and all made of white flowers with red flowers in the middle. It being Sudarsana Jayanthi there was Tirumanjanam to Chakrathazhwar in the morning and special alankaram of flowers. Also the swamis offering stotras for Perumal after aradhana chanted from ‘Sudarsanashtakam and Shodasayudha stotram’. After this distribution of Perumal Theertham, Srisathari and Prasadams took place.

Perumal was ready to return to ‘kanadi-arai’ but He had to listen to the eulogy offered by kattiyam Varadan swami. This is called ‘kodai-utsavam Seema Tiruchevi sadditthal’. Each line ends with ‘Deva’ and is a pleasure to hear. Then Varadan emerges decked in flowers and is joined by Ubhaya Nachimars. Together They go to ‘kanadi-arai’ and the curtains are drawn. Meanwhile devotees head for Periazhwar ‘sevakalam’ and return for sayanam. All the flowers are carefully removed and Perumal and His Ubhayanachimars are in minimum flower garlands. Warm milk spiced with almonds and saffron (sayana-paal) is offered, the lullaby is played by the musicians, women sing Kulasekharazhwar’s ‘Mannupugaz Kosalai’ and the curtains are drawn for the night. Those assembled there gets ‘sayana-paal’ as prasadam.
