Srirangam Namperumal Irapathu-25

Today, January 16, 2014; Vijaya Varusha Thai Punarpoosam, Day 6 of the Irapathu Utsavam was celebrated at Sri Ranganathawamy Divya Desam, Srirangam. Today, Sri Ahobila Muth’s Poliyan Sirappu took place. Namperumal came in purappadu from Moolasthanam via Paramapadavasal and reached Thirumamani Mandapam situated in 1000 pillared Mandapam. Anusandham of Thiruvaimozhi was done during Irapathu. Thiruvaimozhi 5-2 Poliga Poliga pasuram predicts the advent of Ramanuja who would make all the doshams of Kaliyugam go. The earth would be filled with Sri Vaishnavas dancing and singing Perumal’s glories. Sorrows, diseases, enmity, hunger would vanish and Viparitha gnanam would be destroyed. Adivan Sathakopa Yathindra Mahadesikan, the Mahan who established Sri Ahobila Muth and was the first Srimath Azhagiyasingar, was so overwhelmed on listening to this pasuram He sent upharams, etc for Namperumal. The tradition continues to this day.

At about 3 pm,  shisyas and abhimanis of Sri Ahobila Muth gathered at Uthira Veedhi Sri Ahobila Muth to receive temple sevakas. Four baskets containing rice with a pumpkin in the middle was kept ready infront of the deities housed in Sri Ahobila Muth. The temple authorities arrived at 3:30 pm and important members were accorded maryadhai and SriSathari inside the sanctum. Then swamis from the temple gave chandanam to all the swamis and temple workers. This was followed by vethilai-paku and coconut distribution. It is a practise to take Perumals offerings on the back of the temple elephant. But Andal, the temple elephant, is at Mudumulai sanctuary with other temple elephants for rejunevation. So this year, Sri Ahobila Muth Aradhakar and Mudrakartha carried the bahumanams to be offered on his head and accompanied by vadyam, chamarams, two umbrellas and followed by Sri Vaishnavas entered Ranga Ranga gopuram took a right turn towards Udayar sannidhi and taking a left turn entered thousand pillared mandapam where Perumal was offered vastram, flowers and garlands. Aradhkar swami and three others were given parivattam and sathari maryadhai. All the shisyas following were given Theertham Sri Sathari.
