Tomorrow is The Important Day – Avani Hastham is an extremely holy day. Any auspicious event started on this day is a success. It was on Avani Hastham day that our Ramanuja Dayapatram thaniyan was born and the avatharam of HH 44th Srimath Azhagiyasingar happened at Mukkur and HH has the Thirunamam of SriVan Sathakopa Sri Vedantha Desika Yathindra Mahadesikan. HH is the Only Srimath Azhagiyasingar to have the ashrama thirunamam of Vedantha Desikan.
Thanian means thani slokam that is why each acharya has a thaniyan. Sriman Venkatanatharya is the thaniyan recited before commencing Swami Desikan’s sanskrit slokams. Ramanuja Dayapatram is chanted before starting Tamil Prabhandhams. This thaniyan was composed by Brahmatantra Jeer Swami who was the direct disciple of Swami Desikan. This thaniyan was submitted at the feet of Nainarachariar swami the illustrous son of Swami Desikan. This happened on an Avani Hastham day at Thirunarayanapuram. Every Avani Hastham TiruNarayana Perumal comes to Swami Desikan Sannidhi and is celebrated as Ramanujadayapatra avatharikai Thirunal. Swami Desikan came 300 years after Ramanuja, how then could swami be the recepient of His Daya? We all say Ramanuja Dasosmi daily how is the link established? Through our acharya. Yen uyirthandhu establishes the sambandham, the chain. Swami Desikan’s mama and guru was Kidambi Apullar whose ancestry goes back to Kidambi Aachan who was the recepient of Ramanuja’s daya. Swami Desikan had as His ornaments Gnanam and Vairagyam. Vande means Praise be to. In brief the thaniyan means Salutations to the recepient of Ramanuja’s mercy who was adorned by the jewels, gnana and Vairagya. As followers of Desika Sampradhya let us all bow our heads and offer dandavath pranamams at the feet of Kavitarkika Simham and Sundarasimham.
