Today August 14th, 2013; Vijaya Aadi Vishakam, HH 46th Srimath Azhagiyasingar Srivan Sathakopa Sri Ranganatha Yathindra Maha Desikan is on the 24th day of Chathurmasya vratham at Srirangam Dasavatharan Sannidhi.
In the morning, Abhigamanam went on at the usual time. Mala Maryadhai came from Thiruvahindrapuram for Srimath Azhagiyasingar today. Perumal Theertham, Sri Sathari and Prasada Viniyogam (Ven pongal and Kesari) took place at about 8.45am.
Vishakam is the star of Nammazhwar. Nam means ours. Nammperumal is our Perumal, Nammazhwar is our Azhwar. Our Guruparampara starts with Perumal-Pirrati, Vishvaksenar, Nammazhwar, Nathamunigal, Uyyakondar, Manakkal Nambi, Yamuna muni, Periya Nambi, Ramanujacharya, Kidambi Aachan, Kidambi Ramanujapillan, Athreya Ramanujar and Swami Desikan. Though the number of years between Nathamuni and Nammazhwar is large, it was Nathamuni’s chanting of Madurakavi’s Kanninum Sirutambu pasurams 12,000 times that procured not only Thiruvaymozhi 1000 but also the remaining Azhwar Pasurams.
In a similar manner, Adivan Sathakopan, the 1st Srimath Azhagiyasingar after accepting Malolan’s command at Sri Ahobilam visited Azhwar Thirunagari with Sri Malolan only to discover that Nammazhwar’s Divyamangalamurthi was missing. Following Nathamuni’s footsteps, HH did 12,000 times chanting of Kanninum Siruthambu and found Nammazhwar’s Divyamangalamurthi. HH was called “Van Sathakopa Jeeyar” from thence. The Adi is from Adipiran and HH was called Adivan Sathakopa Jeeyar. Swami Nammazhwar gave the Hamsa Mudrai which is the official seal of Sri Ahobila Muth. “Sri Sathakopa Sri” is how Srimath Azhagiyasingars put their signature. On 23rd May 2013, when HH 46th Srimath Azhagiyasingar had Pattabhishekam, the Hamsa Mudrai adorned the fingers. Nammazhwar’s Hamsa Mudrai is the heirloom of Sri Ahobila Muth which represents the symbolic assumption of the Azhagiyasingar mantle. Azhagiyasingars are accorded special maryadai at Azhwar Thirunagari during Nammazhwar’s Thirunakshatram celebrations in Vaikasi. Such then is our sambandham with Nammazhwar.
