Durmukhi Aadi Mrighasheersham(July 30th) was the fourth day of Andal’s Aadi Pooram utsavam at Kanchi Varadarja Perumal koil. The day being sarva ekadashi and aSaturday there were many pilgrims visiting the temple. They were pleased to find the Goddess they had come seeking coming before them in ‘purappadu’.
Light green with meroon border was the silk vastram for the day. Matching the vastram was a garland of ‘nilasampangi’ flowers which had a greenish tinge and the pendant of a chain was so fitted it appeared to belong to the flower garland. The Evergreen Andal emerged in purappadu on the Sannidhi Street making every beholder happy. After returning there was harathi at Tondaradipodi and dolai(swing) outside Her sannidhi. Moolavar Andal also was dressed in a similar green silk vastram.
After satrumurai Theertham distribution took place and devotees went home with Her image in their hearts.
Durmukhi Aadi Tiruvadhirai was the 5th day of Andal’s Aadi Pooram Utsavam at Kanchi Varadaraja Perumal koil. As we waited for the curtains to be drawn everyone was wondering about the alankaram specially the vastram for the day. Andal wore a jari check dark blue silk with meroon border to steal the hearts of Her devotees. Her hair was done in ‘kodali mudichu’ and a side bun with embellishments like pearl strings, gem studded rakodi, suryan/chandran etc.
Pendants of varying sizes, flower garlands and necklaces adorned the daughter of Periazhwar, the sister of Ramanuja who strode on Sannidhi Street under two white umbellas and a golden one to the accompaniment of Divyaprabhandham and the sonorous vedic chanting. The swinging ceremony took place after Her return to the mandapam followed by the Arulicheyal offerings and sattrumurai.
