Durmukhi Aani Hastham (July 11th 2016) was day-6 of kodai-utsavam at Kanchi Varadaraja Perumal koil. Hastham is the nakshatram Varadan chose for His avatharam. Varadan and His Consorts are in ‘kanadi-arai ‘ mandapam for ‘kodai- utsavam’. In the morning at about 10.30 Perumal theertham, Srisathari and sumptuous prasada distribution took place.
In the evening Perumal and Ubhaya Nachimars left in purappadu in sarvalankaram in separate tholuku iniyans but without the usual porvai. They were attired in light green silk vastrams with zari designs all over.
The ‘poo-sarthu utsavam’ was special today it being Varada’s monthly nakshatram day. The floral rings were thicker than usual and besides the strands and strands of jasmines, jathi puspam, orange kanakabharam, green maru and kuruviver and the thick garland of vrikshi and jasmines, the poo-porvai was made of sampangi (rajnigandha) strands attached to the crisscross one made of jasmine buds. There was a malar kreedam(crown of flowers) for Perumal and Ubhaya Nachimars and as one stood from a distance and looked at Varadan against a green background one could enjoy the beautiful combination of white, red and green from Head to Feet. The UbhayaNachimars stood together in similar colours looking Beautiful and similar. After Perumal Theertham, Srisathari and prasada distribution were over Varadan and His Consorts returned to’kanadi-arai’.
