Durmukhi Aadi Rohini (July 29th) was the third day of Aadi Pooram celebrations at Kanchi Varadaraja Perumal koil. At about 6.00 p.m Andal started in purappadu from Her Sannidhi. Clad in a deep yellow silk with a tinge of orange and a broad red zari border worn in typical Kanchi style wherein the border gets pleated at the waist She caught the attention of everyone. The three strands of mazhiyam flowers stood out as also the pottu thali typical of Andhra Pradesh. The usual thick garland and chains with pendants were there but not cluttered. Her long braid and kondai embellished with ornaments and flowers were attractive. When She reached the steps leading to Atthigiri the tholukuiniyan was lowered and there were small waits outside Narasimha sannidhi, Thayar sannidhi and swami Desikan sannidhi. The Veda parayana goshti started from the dwajhasthambam. After reaching Tiruvadi koil She stopped outside to listen to the Vedic chants and the Tamil Vedams . After returning there was ‘oonjal’ outside Her sannidhi. This was followed by satrumurai and distribution of theertham and prasadam.
