Today, Thai Amavasai, Sravana naksthatram, Thinga kizhamai (Monday) (February 8, 2016), together marking the Mahodaya Punyakalam, was celebrated grandly at Thiruppullani. The sethukkarai was decorated by HH 46th Srimath Azhagiyasingar (Srimathe Srivan Satakopa Sri Ranganatha Yatheendra Mahadesikan) and Srimath Andavan and lakhs of devotees gathered to have the sethu snanam (holy dip) on this rare occasion. Mahodaya punyakalam occurs once in many decades and this year it is even more special with the acharyan present at Thirupullani for sethu snanam during this kalam (early morning today). Significantly, Sri Adhi Jegannatha Perumal on Garuda Vahanam visited Sethukkarai before sunrise and at the time of sunrise gave kataksham on Sethu prior to returning to Asthanam (There was no theerthavari).
