The grand Brahmotsavam at Sri Varadaraja Perumal Thirukkoil, Kanchipuram concluded today. Purappadu of Sri Devaperumal along with ubhaya nachimars took place on PunyaKoti Vimanam yesterday evening, May 30th, 2013; Thursday and Vettriver Chapparam today May 31st, 2013; Friday.
PunyaKoti Vimanam
Thursday evening Varadar blessed us all in Punniyakodi vimanam.
We were all be blessed to have dharshan of Devathirajan in this purappadu as this is the same way our Lord gave dharshanam during his avirbhavam at the culmination of yagam performed by Brahma in the presence of all Devas in Kritha yugam.
It makes me wonder if the tamizh saying “Gopura dasishanam kodi punniyam” would have been coined after this wonderful purappadu.
The Ninth day of Brahmotsavam generally coincides with sharvanam star, which is the birth star of Swamy Desikan.
Perarulalan reached Thiruthanka (Thoopul), the birth place of Swamy Desikan. On reaching the sannidhi, Devathirajan received dharshana thambulam from Swamy and then honoured Swamy with Satagopum and Maalai. Then prasadam was distributed to ghosti and afterwards Swamy bid a reluctant farewell to our Lord. From there Varadar proceeded to Gangai kondan mandapam where he had his thiruaradhanam before returning back to kovil.
Day 10
Today is the Tenth and the last day of the wonderful Brahmotsavam in Perumal kovil.
The days events started with Dwadhsa aradhanam, in late morning. In the evening, Devathirajan had purappadu in Vettiver chapparam followed by Dwaja Avaroganam, Vedai sathithal, Rakshabandanan visharjanam and finally Archakar mariyadhai.
Dwadhasa arathanam is performed on the last day of Brahmotsavam to remove any thiruvaarathana lobham during the utsavam. In brief, thiruaradhanam is performed 12 times. During the 12th time pushpa yagam would be performed. During this time vedaparayanam would be followed by rendering of Thiruvaimozhi. The event would conclude with Vedaparayana satrumurai and Thiruvaimozhi satrymurai, in melodious tunes to Perarulalan’s pleasure.
In the evening Perarulalan adorned Thanga Thiruabishekam and got on his Vettiver chapparam. The chapparam was decked with vettiver and beautifully decorated with flowers which was a treat to our senses. In this puruppadu, Perarulalan did not go till Gangai kondan mantapam but just visited the 4 maada veedhis.
Once Devathirajan was back in Kovil, he proceeded to dwjasthambham to oversee Dwajaavarohanam, the garudan flag that was hoisted on the first day was lowered. The lowered flag was placed on Devathirajan’s thiruvadi.
Next event is vadai sathithal, in which all the assembled were informed about the various events that took place during the utsavam and are thanked for their presence.
On the way to thiru malai, Devathirajan exchanged maalai with Andal. Once he reached his asthanam, visharjanam of rakshabandanam was done for Perarulalan and the officiating archakar. Mariyadai was done for the officiating archakar by presenting Perarulalan’s slik duppatta, parivattam & maalai. With this the Brahmotsavam has come to an end.
