The time period from Thirumangai Azhwar Thirunakshathram (Kathigaiyil Karthigai) to Kuraththazhwar Thirunakshathram (Thai hastham) is called Thirukkaarthi or Anadhyayana Kalam .

Arulicheyal is not chanted, during anadhyayana kalam, except during dhanur masam we can chant Thirupalliyezhuchhi & Thiruppavai.
All the tanians, for acharyas and for prabhandams are chanted.

There is difference in the Aradhana followed in the houses and that in the Temples. From Thirumangai Azhwar Thirunakshathram, it is followed in Temples and from the next day, it is followed in the houses. Incidentally it happened that the next day to Tirumangaiazhwar Thirunakshatram is Thiruppanazhwar Thirunakshathram. There is no connection between Thiruppanazhwar Thirunakshathram and Dravida Veda Nigamanam.

After Thirukkarthi, while restarting to recite the Dravida Vedam, in houses, they start in the morning of Kuraththazhwar Thirunakshthram day and in temples, according to the convenience, they start in the morning or in the evening on the same day.

This year Anadhyayana kalam started from 28th nov 2012 in temples and it ends on feb 1st 2013

Thirumangai Azhvar started the tradition of Adhyayana Uthsavam in Srirangam.

In olden days, during Adhyayanothsavams of Srirangam temple, Nammazhwar’s and other Azhwar’s tirumeni from different Divya Desas were brought to Srirangam on ShuklaPaksha Ekadasi (Vaikunta Ekadasi). This was an arrangement made by Thirumangai Alwar. As Azhwars are not present in those respective Divya Desas and the Prabandha scholars also used to go to Sriramgam, they used to stop reciting Divya Prabandhas in those temples. In Srirangam, it used to take 10 to 20 days to do Prabandha Parayana for those Azhwars brought from Divya Desas. On this auspicious day Sukla Paksha Ekadasi (Sri Vaikunta Ekadasi), Swami Nammazhvar is adorned with Muthangi and Namperumal with Rathnangi. Starting from Ekadasi, next nine days, Sri Thirumangai Azhvar arranged to recite Swami Nammazhwar’s prabhandhams in front of Namperumal.  This is what we call today as IrapPathu or Thiruvaimozhi Thirunaal. After the event (10 days after Vaikunta Ekadasi) again, Azhwars used to return to their respective Divya Desas. For this it used to take 45 days to two months. Hence, this time was set as Anadhyayana, ie., Prabandhas were not read in those temples during these days. As by the time they reach their respective temples, there comes Kuraththazhwar Thirunakshathram. Hence, from Kuraththazhwar Thirunakshathram, again Prabandhas will be recited. To follow the uniformity in all the Divya Desas, Until Kuraththazhwar Thirunakshathram, Prabandhas were not recited and from that day, again they resume to recite Prabandhams.

As the rule is formulated by Thirumangai Alwar, to remember that, from Thirumangai Azhwar Thirunakshathram onwards, Divya Prabandhas will not be read.

After the days of Sri Thirumangai Azhwar, the practice was slowly stopped. It was Sri Nathamunigal who restarted this practice.

After Thirumangai Azhvar’s time, due to practical difficulties (of bringing Nammazhvar to Srirangam), a Thirumeni of Swami Nammazhvar was installed in SriRangam temple.
After a few hundred years, Svami Ramanuja, revived and revitalized this ceremony. (as per the Thiruvullam of Nathamunugal)
Sri Ramanujar added ten days before the Ira Paththu and called them Pagal Paththu, and arranged that during these ten days prabhandhams of other Azhvars should be recited. Also Sri Ramanuja added one more day for Iyarpa.
Because, Sri Thirumangai Azhvar started it, the day before the Pagal Paththu Uthsavam first day, Namperumal listens to ThiruNedunthandagam of Sri Thirumangai Azhvar.
So, originally started as ten days festival by Sri Thirumangai Azhvar and was later modified as Twenty one days (+one day for
ThiruNedunthandagam) by Swami Emberumanar.

In all the Dhivya Desams that follow tradition, Chanting of Dravida Veda is restricted during the anadhyayana kalam, as per the Command of the LORD.
Tradition being followed in Srirangam, Kanchi Varadarajar and all Kanchi Kshetrams, Thirumalai, Thirunaryanapuram, Thiruvallikeni, and other Divya Desams. (but period may differ from that of Srirangam)

On the day of Thirukkarthikai after the Purappadu and Thailakkappu, the pattolai is read from LORD to Nammazhvar.

The LORD commands
“I and my two Nacchiyars will be seated in the simmasana during the pagal patthu and rappathu utsavam days and will listen to all Azhvar Arulicheyals. Elsewhere, untill then, no one should recite them”. This is LORD’s command.
Then starting the next day, none of the Azhvar prabhandams are recited.
During the nityapadis (daily recitals) sri sooktams by Alavandar, Emperumanar, PillaiLokachar, Vedanta Desikar, Mamunikal and others acharyas can be recited.

During the Sathumurai, the four + 8 verses of Thiruppallandu are not recited. Even Thiruppallandu and Thiruppalliyezhuchi are not to be recited. Ramanuja nootrandhadhi is also not to be recited as its also a part of divya prabhandam.

Exemption is only during the Dhanur masam days:

During Dhanurmasam if Thirukkarthi comes, then, ThiruppalliYeluchchi and Thiruppavai can be recited as usual. These two were exempted from the Nigamanam. As Andal sung the Thiruppavai during this Dhanurmasam only and this is the Vratham that one has to do during Dhanurmasam only, Thiruppavai is exempted from the Thirukkarthi’s Prabandha Nigamanam rule. As Thiruppalliyeluchchi is the Prabandham that is sung to wake up Sriranganatha, that purpose exactly matches with the Purpose of Thiruppavai Vratham. Hence, ThriuppalliYeluchchi will also be recited even if it is Thirukkarthi. However, it should be noticed that, while offering it as Vratham Kainkaryam to Lord, during Thirukkarthi, these Thiruppavai and Thiruppalli Yeluchchi should not be recited in the other times except in the early hours of Thiruppavai Vratham.
